Grimsdell Mill Hill Pre-Prep

Physical Education

At Grimsdell we share a passion for healthy active living beyond school. Our Physical Education programme provides opportunities to participate in physical activities in varied and changing contexts.

Our inclusive Physical Education curriculum issues each child with the opportunity to develop a wide and full repertoire of abilities through their full involvement in a variety of movement experiences.

The programme focuses explicitly on developing the children’s Physical literacy. This can be described as the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activities for life.

Our specialist teachers ensure our Physical Education lessons take place in an environment where children want to be physically active, where children are confident to participate, and where relationships are built between pupils and teacher to help motivation.

All our pupils will participate in weekly PE lessons with continuous progression from Nursery throughout Year 2. Our planning is based on seven main components: Dance, Games, Gymnastics, Swimming, Athletics, Co-operative & Team Building Activities.

Our sports day is a highlight of the year. Everyone takes part in a mass participation event that creates healthy competition.

Teamwork

Working together is at the heart of PE at Grimsdell. All children from Nursery upwards are placed in one of our three Houses: Willow, Beech and Oak. Pupils earn points for their House through Inter-House competitions and mass participation events through the year ranging from swimming galas, sports festivals, and dance contests. We also run different activities in conjunction with our older pupils at MHS who take on positions of responsibility as Sports Leaders. These students are highly inspirational role models for our youngsters.
