Sports and PE
Sports and PE play an integral part in the educational programme at Grimsdell.
Our goal is to create opportunities for pupils to have a quality experience regardless of their level of expertise. The children thrive in competitive and cooperative activities and events throughout the year.
In Year 2, the children start to play team sports at Belmont, adding an extra hour of physical activity a week. The pupils will be coached in netball, hockey, rounders, football, and cricket. This is a wonderful way to build their playing skills, so they are ready for Year 3 sports at the next stage of their sporting journey.

Early Years
During this age range, the structure of our programme is designed to develop each child’s basic movement skills and physical literacy. It develops the whole individual through a series of experiences that will build physical competence and confidence, whilst challenging a range of different capabilities.
Key Stage 1
Our programme for this age group further develops the basic movement skills of each child through the introduction of pre-sports or reduced sports. The pupils will explore both general and specific sports that facilitate ‘hand-eye’ coordination to encourage everyone to gain the greatest amount of physical body awareness and to improve their fundamental movement skills.
This is achieved without compromising the overall ethos of fun, enjoyment, and play. Contemporary research finds that the more enjoyment, confidence, competence and understanding children have in physical education, the more active they are in life.
Sports and Events
Throughout the year the children have the opportunity to take part in different team events and mass participation activities, from an annual golf day, trampoline taster sessions, a swimming gala, yoga, dance, a festival of sports, and our inter-house sports day at the end of each academic year.
