- Recycling Workshop

Our Eco Club along with Belmont, Mill Hill Prep, Eco Cub recently enjoyed an engaging and informative visit from the recycling centre WasteStream, giving pupils a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of sustainability and responsible waste management.
During the session, pupils learned about the important role recycling plays in protecting the environment and reducing waste. A key focus of the visit was helping children identify the difference between a “good bin” and a “bad bin.” Through interactive discussions and practical examples, pupils discovered how correctly sorting waste ensures that recyclable materials can be reused effectively, while mistakes in recycling can lead to contamination and prevent items from being processed properly.
WasteStream’s representatives shared simple, practical tips that pupils can easily apply in their everyday lives, both at school and at home. From rinsing containers before recycling to understanding which materials belong in which bins, the session empowered pupils with the knowledge and confidence to make more environmentally friendly choices.
The visit also encouraged thoughtful conversations around the wider impact of waste on the planet. Pupils explored how small actions, when taken collectively, can make a significant positive difference in preserving natural resources and reducing pollution. This hands-on learning experience reinforced the Eco Clubs’ ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental awareness.
It was inspiring to see the pupils so engaged and enthusiastic, asking insightful questions and showing a genuine desire to take action. Experiences such as these not only enrich their learning but also help foster a lifelong sense of responsibility for caring for the world around them.
