We were excited to speak to Mrs Georgia Altbach, a Teaching Assistant at Grimsdell. We spoke to Mrs Altbach to learn more about her and her role.

How long have you worked at the school?

I joined Grimsdell in September 2019 after taking a career break to be a full time Mum to my two daughters who are now 8 and 11. Prior to that I worked at Sarum Hall School in Belsize Park.

What does your role involve?

I’m very lucky that I get to spend time as a Teaching Assistant in both Nursery classes getting involved in the classroom and the Nursery Forest School! I also teach Mindfulness to Year 1 and Year 2, I also cover classes in Reception. I love the variety of my roles as every day is so different.

What is your favourite thing about the school?

I love how the School is like one big family, the Mill Hill Schools really cares and that is seen in all the staff and all the smiles on the children’s faces and their excitement coming to school each day.

What advice would you give to our pupils to help them get the most out of their time here?

Enjoy it even on the days you feel tired or overwhelmed or you miss your parents, you are so lucky to be part of such a wonderful school with so much learning and fun, we have so many opportunities and we are so grateful.

What is your favourite book and film for our pupils, and why?

My favourite film is Annie, I used to watch it a lot as a child and I love her grit, determination and optimism even in tricky and challenging situations. My favourite book is Tuesdays with Morrie, I changed careers many years ago and I never looked back, this book’s message is about finding your purpose and living a life with meaning.

Could you share an inspirational quote and tell us how it inspires you?

‘Still I rise’ which is about the power of resilience, self respect and confidence. Simon Biles has it tattooed on her collarbone! She’s a great role model and also a fellow breathwork and mindfulness enthusiast.

Can you tell us something interesting that we might not know about you?

Ooh so many I’d love to share can I share two? I have a green belt in karate, and I went to The Mount School from the age of 7 until 16 which is now Mill Hill International!
