Black History Month
This October, Grimsdell pupils have been immersed in a rich and inspiring celebration of Black History Month, embracing this year’s theme: Standing Firm in Power and Pride. The school community came together through storytelling, music, literature, and personal reflections to honour Black heritage and celebrate the values that unite us.
Book Fair
The Muswell Hill Children’s Bookshop to Grimsdell for a special Book Fair in celebration of Black History Month.
Children visited in small groups to explore a diverse range of books with Mrs Harvey and a wonderful staff member from the bookshop, who helped them discover stories that sparked their interest and imagination.
We believe it is so important for every child to see themselves reflected in the books they read, and we hope these stories will inspire our pupils while celebrating the richness and diversity of our community.

Visit from Helen Epega
We were pleased to welcome to Grimsdell as part of our Black History Month celebrations! Helen is a Nigerian-British opera singer, songwriter, composer, and performance artist, best known for creating and composing the world’s first opera in Pidgin English.
Her wonderful workshop harnessed the power of music and storytelling to engage, inspire, empower, and uplift our pupils.
During the session, the children explored different instruments and had fun playing egg shakers and other small instruments, discovering how music can bring people together.
We also asked the pupils to describe the session in one word, their responses said it all: Good, exciting, happy, amazing, calm, amusing, and united.

Parents Inspire Pupils at Grimsdell
In line with this year’s Black History Month theme, Standing Firm in Power and Pride, Mrs Harvey invited parents from our School community to share what makes them feel proud of the work they do.
The children loved guessing each parent’s profession from the items they brought in, before hearing more about their roles and how they connect to our Grimsdell Way.
Laavanya, a Doctor, shared that “Keep everyone safe and happy” reflects her work perfectly, while Timi, a Lawyer and Interior Designer, said “Do our best to be our best” inspires her every day, linking to one of the rules of the Grimsdell Way.
It was a wonderful end-of-term assembly that truly brought pupils, parents, and staff together, a celebration of pride, purpose, and doing the right thing in everyday life.
